The financial and business hub of Brazil is to get\u00a0US<\/span>$5 million\u00a0to help farmers on S\u00e3o Paulo’s perimeter sell organic produce in the\u00a0mega city’s markets and restaurants.<\/p>\n

The initiative could prevent many\u00a0struggling farmers<\/a>\u00a0from selling their land to developers, which encourages further urban sprawl that covers farmland and can poison local water supplies.<\/p>\n

This is good news because cities need to learn how to reconnect with their hinterlands, with food growing and become more reliant on local food.<\/p>\n
